My Next Birthday Will Be My Best Birthday!

What was the best birthday you ever had?
Well, last week I celebrated the 40th anniversary of my 21st birthday. I will let you all do the math. My good friend Linda, a faithful reader of the blog, asked me a simple enough question. What was the best birthday I ever had? I started to think about it and rattled off several of the trips I had taken around my birthday, Broadway shows I had seen, and the numerous nights I had attended a Billy Joel concert to mark the event.
But as I thought about the question a couple of days later, I was not satisfied with the answer.
I have had many birthdays, 61 to be precise (if you did not feel like doing the math.) There have been many great ones, with good friends, in cool places, generally having a good time. I am pretty sure there have been a few clunkers in there a long the way, but all in all, I am pretty happy. Just give me a chocolate cream pie with a candle, and I am good to go.
The wisdom of the Piano Man
As I was thinking about Linda’s question, I was listening to the Billy Joel channel on my satellite radio, and on came the song “Keeping the Faith.” Then it hit me, “the good old days weren’t always good and tomorrow ain’t as bad as it seems.”
I smiled as I thought about it and realized that going forward, my best birthday will be my current birthday.

Renewal and Reset

My birthdays going forward will be about renewal and reset, and looking forward to the year ahead. There can be no better group of people or place I can be other than being with the people most important to me, eating a chocolate cream pie. Yes, my birthday dessert of choice.
It will be a day to celebrate the success and impact I have had over the past year and time to think about what comes next.
A day filled with energy, excitement, and the fuel to take on new challenges and seize opportunities will come from the belief that “Tomorrow ain’t as bad as it seems.” It is all about celebrating where I am and what is possible to accomplish next.
A final thought
When I look back over the past year, I have been blessed with several new opportunities, dealt with a few challenges, and connected with some truly amazing people. I am grateful for your encouragement and support and invite you all to make your next birthday your best birthday.
