Create From Here: A Reflection on Grief, Growth, and Possibility

I recently lost a close friend to cancer.

 His decline was sudden.

 His passing was disorienting.

 It just didn’t seem fair.

In the days that followed, I felt numb.

 Too heavy to write.

 So, I read.

 Edited photographs.

Sat in silence.

And then the questions started.

Why am I pushing so hard?

 Why not slow down?

 Why not spend more time with Diane, our kids, my camera, and the life I’ve worked so hard to build?

Grief has a way of surfacing the questions we usually outrun.

Through conversations with my coach, I landed on a new frame:

Yes—life is short.
Time is limited.
And sometimes, it doesn’t feel fair.

But what if…

💭 Life is about waking up each day with a question worth exploring.

That simple shift cracked something open in me.

What if, instead of chasing more, I began each day by tuning into a single idea worth pursuing?

What if I gave focused attention to a dream I’ve been putting off—one that’s quietly asking for space?

Yes, the world will always have demands.
 But today, what if you made time for yourself?

Ask yourself:

What do I want to create today that I can build on tomorrow?

Over the past few weeks, I’ve started dreaming again—about what’s possible, what’s meaningful, and what truly deserves my attention.

Tomorrow morning, before the day rushes in, take a breath.

Then ask yourself: What do I want to explore for myself today?
